For the last 2 years or so, I have been giving a recurring monthly donation to the DNC in support of Howard Dean's 50-state strategy.
Then I heard this concerning the possible re-do of the Michigan and Florida primaries:
"We can't afford to do that," Dean said on CBS' "The Early Show," one of several media appearances he made this morning. "That's not our problem. We need our money to win the presidential race."
While I can appreciate that the DNC is saving it's money for the presidential race, what is the point if a Democrat is saying that a Republican is more qualified than another Democrat?
Hillary Clinton:
"I think that since we now know Sen. McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it’s imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold," the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant’s bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.
"I believe that I’ve done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you’ll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy," she said.
and
Sen. McCain has a lifetime of experience, I have a lifetime of experience, Sen. Obama has one speech in 2002
This quote from the Carpetbagger Report pretty much sums up my thoughts on this:
"There are certain lines that you do not cross in a primary campaign. And one of those is suggesting that your primary opponent, the likely nominee, is so unfit that that the Republican nominee might be preferable to him. This is spoiler territory, and Clinton should be ashamed."
What is the point of donating money to the DNC to use to win the presidency, when one of our own is making McCain seem like a good candidate?
This Monday, March 11th, I am calling the DNC and canceling my recurring donation, and when they ask me why I will tell them that I don't feel that investing money in the DNC is worth it, when one of the 2 remaining candidates is actively supporting a Republican for President over one of our own. I will be the first to restart my donations when we settle on a nominee (either one) or when I hear a commitment or see a change in Clinton's scorched earth policy that supports John McCain's qualifications.
On a recurring donation with the DNC? Call them Monday and cancel!
Planning on donating to the DNC? Call them on Monday and tell them why you are not.
